Swanson Insurance Selected for Safeco’s Make More Happen Volunteer Award

October 10, 2016

Safeco’s Make More Happen Award recognizes independent insurance agents who demonstrate extraordinary volunteerism for a nonprofit organization. This year, SAN Member Agency Swanson Insurance of Waterford, Connecticut was selected for their participation in the Tour de Force 9/11 Memorial Bike Ride. The annual four-day event both honors the victims of the 9/11 attacks and raises money for the families of police officers killed in the line of duty.

Agency owner Gregg Swanson first participated in the annual 4-day event in 2015 and this year all nine Swanson Insurance employees supported the Tour de Force. Swanson also recruited 10 additional riders for the event, all of whom must raise a minimum of $1,250. The overall goal for Swanson’s group is $40,000, and all money raised goes toward helping the families of fallen officers, according to Mike De Paolis, Tour de Force director and board member.

That amount will get a boost this year, because Swanson’s efforts have earned a 2016 Safeco Insurance Make More Happen Award. It comes with a $4,000 donation to Tour De Force from Safeco on behalf of Swanson Insurance. That amount was bumped up to $5,000 when the agency’s “Cheer” page received over 50 different posts of encouragement on Safeco’s Make More Happen webpage highlighting the Swanson Insurance Agency’s involvement in this event.
